IT AIN'T "OLIN MILLS" ....BUT IT WILL WORK!!

Yesterday I received this funny email chuck full of "Olin Mills" professional pictures with captions attached. [You know the ones with "mullets" and other scary "80's fashion moments.]
I thought to myself, I have some of those! [Then a feeling of "panic" went through me as I was afraid our family photo would be actually be amongst them.]
Although Robin posted these little gems last year, I thought I would share.
These photos actually say "Royal Studios" not "Olin Mills".
I wanted generation pictures, so I had pictures of my mom, me and my girls and Doug, his dad, and Mac taken at this photo shoot.
Enjoy...and have a good laugh at our expense!!!!
You can put your own captions to these little treasures.....but the one I am giving it is that from that crazy song......"HAIR". Takes me right back to 1968.
I doubt many of you will even remember this song.....

My Caption for this photo:

"...........Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair.

Shining, gleaming, streaming,

flaxen, waxen.

Give me down to there hair,

shoulder length or longer

Here baby, there, momma, ev'rywhere, daddy, daddy.

hair, hair, hair, hair,

hair Hair, hair, hair.

Flow it, show it,

long as God can grow it, my hair.

Let it fly in the breeze and get caught in the trees,

give a home to the fleas in my hair.

A home for fleas (yeah)

a hive for bees (yeah),

a nest for birds,

there ain't no words for the beauty,

the splendor, the wonder of my:

Hair, hair, hair, hair,

hair Hair, hair, hair

Flow it, show it,

long as God can grow it, my hair

I want long, straight, curly, fuzzy,

snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty,

oily, greasy, fleecy, shining,

gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen,

knotted, polka dotted, twisted,

beaded, braided, powered, flowered

and confettied, bangled, tangled,

spangled and spahettied.

Hair, hair, hair, hair,

hair Hair, hair, hair.

Flow it, show it, long as God can grow it, my hair.

HAIR"

My Caption:

"Don't look now Mac, but when it comes to "Hair" .......

Like Grandfather, like Father, like Son......"

I have been de-funked.

The cloud has lifted........
I am feeling better.............
This is how it happened.....

1. My sister Carolyn wrote me an email. She is a faithful "reader" of my blog, but never comments. However, she does send me comments on my email. And they made me laugh. [Good for de-funking]. This is part of what she said:

"While I was waiting for Joe to get out of the shower this morning, I read your blog spot. In your honor when I got dressed I put on my blue pants, blue socks, and two blue shirts. If this is the first time you have ever had 'January Blues' you are fortunate. "

"I don't count my blessings either when I'm blue (like every January) But they follow me around anyway....."

2. My sister Rosalie [also a faithful reader (I am glad I amuse them)], called me and told me that:

I did not have the corner on being in a "funk", as that was exactly how she had been feeling.

[That almost put me back in my "funk" ...wahhhhh....can't I be the only one in a funk?]

3. A certain "blessing" started to walk ....so then I had to count her.....

Up until last week Campbell [Robins little girl] had only been walking on her "knees". Seriously, it was the cutest thing you ever saw. She would be up on both knees with her hands in the air and would "walk" all over that way. And then one day last week she made it to her feet and took off. She is still in the 1-2-3-4-5-6-drop, get up 1-2-3-4-5-6-drop stage, but I believe her knees will lose their callouses.

Who can be in a "funk" when you witness that?

4. Had a "secret" lunch on my Birthday which was not for my birthday but for someone Else's birthday with people I enjoy and love......

shhhhh...........it's a secret...............and helped the de-funking process.

5. The day before my birthday my "Maddox Friends" took me to lunch at you can guess where.

Linda got her "banana nut cake" and who can be in a "funk" when Linda was so deliriously happy. Then she flew off to Germany for a day.....and that makes her really happy.....again ........ part of the de-funking.

6. The news is usually gloomy......[Funk material].

But this week 150+ people survived an airplane crash in the Hudson River....in New York....a miracle....a tear maker.......a life changer for many.

7. A Birthday celebrated.........

My "family" at work made my birthday wonderful as they always do with cards, gifts, emails, brownies, Cinnamon rolls, etc etc etc.....
de-funk..de-funk..de-funk!

8. Rich my "hair guy". [I just can't call him my "beautician", or my "hair dresser" [that is way to femmie and he has a deep voice.] And I can't call him my "barber" cause that is way too much a "guy-thing" and he is married with two kids....so don't go there.......

On my birthday when he washed my hair..... he massaged my head just a little bit looooonger than normal [ I did have to beg a little] and anyone who LOVES to have their hair washed and head massaged knows why this was a definitely a big
DE-FUNK-ER.

9. Birthday songs from more of those "blessings" I have not wanted to count.....

"Christmas time...Easter Rhyme.... won't you be my Valentine.........Ya da Ya da"......reallllllly.....this song really makes me happy....so happy it makes me cry. It says "I love you grandma, and I will sing this Birthday song to you even if it does not make any sense to me......... and I am 11 almost 12 and a boy, and I really don't want to sing this song, but I will because I love you and I want you to de-funk."

10. De-funking acts of kindness by my kids...........

Homemade snicker doodles [I shall not confess how many I ate], Fresh pictures from New Jersey, an early morning Saturday trip to the Temple with a daughter.....lovely.....warm.....happy.....a captured memory filled with love and sacrifice. A movie with another daughter ....[Bride Wars] we laughed... we cried....[I love movies that seem like they are frivolous but can touch your heart and make it all worth the hour and a half you sit there] another sacrifice of time on her part...to spend time with her mom [me].......... and the sun is shining bright!!

I have definitely been DE-FUNKED.
A humble "thank-you" to all.

The End.

PS. You will notice that I did not mention Doug. He had surgery on Wednesday and is lounging in his dad's lounge chair he brought over for the occasion. Hernia surgery.....need I say more????????
He is in a "FUNK"

>>>>I'm in a Funk<<<<<

OK.....it's true....I am in a "FUNK".........
Not sure why......
Not blogging much....not anything of value to share...

Feeling sad.....feeling bad......I'm blue.....it's true.....

Could it be.......
The weather?
My Birthday [59] coming up?.......
The six week sugar overload????
The uncertainty and changes at work??

Maybe it is everything/maybe it's nothing....

Don't want to count my blessings........although I have many....

Some days it just feels good to well........... feel bad...
It is like a giant cloud hanging over my head.

But I know that one day it will lift and all will be well again.

And then I will count my blessings again, and there will be a rainbow after the storm.

It was the most "WONDERFUL DAY" of the year....

New Years Eve Day!!!!!!!!!!!
It started out with a 6:00 Am Session at The Temple...it was Wednesday after all!!

Next was a frosty 8 degree run down Stringtown road. I had to dodge the ice a little on the road, but not too bad. When I got back I took these pictures. Check out the beautiful frosty trees.

Doug and I took a trip to town to run errands, where I made some fun purchases.

Check it out!! Love these boots. Doug bought them for my Birthday.....well one must start early to celebrate one's birthday and milk it for all it's worth especially when you have been alive as long as me!!

Next I dyed my mother-in-laws hair and made a "Pineapple Pie". I know it may not sound good, but it is wonderful. Here is a picture [half gone sorry] and here is the recipe:

John's Pineapple Pie

2 1/2 cups un drained crushed Pineapple in juice not syrup

2 T corn starch

1/2/cup sugar

1/4 ts salt

Mix all ingredients and cook on stove until the milky color almost disappears and the filling thickens somewhat.

Add:

1 T lemon juice

1 T Butter

Stir into mixture.

Pour into unbaked pie shell and put top crust on. Cut out a little pineapple out of the dough that is left over cause it looks cute. Brush slightly with egg white. Put the pineapple "cut out" dough in the center and cut top of pie with scissors [little slits] on top of crust. Sprinkle lightly with sugar on top. Bake in oven 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

THE END

[I bake it with those crust edges you can buy so the edges don't burn.]

When evening came we went to dinner with my friend Brenda and her husband Scott Carnahan. We got to the digs at 4:30 PM and left about 7:00 PM. This is where we went:

" Harley and Bucks"

This what we ate:

And this is what we did....great conversation, great friends, a great time.................

The bottom line is......Doug was in bed by 8:30 PM, I was in bed by 10:30......and I awoke only at mid-night as I could hear Fireworks in the distance.......................................................

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
