Monday Memories...............

What was I thinking?

I received an email today that was about the classic 80's and all of the things that happened and one of them was "You know you grew up in the 80's if you wore a side pony tail". Well, I had my last baby in 1980, and I thought I was all grown up, but I wore a side pony tail just the same.........what was I thinking? I only wish I had a picture to share. Anyway, this made me think of some of the "classic" hairdo's I have had over the years. These are probably 3 of my favorite "What was I thinking hairdos".

The first one was when I was 4 in 1954.......

This was a classic "50's" hair do. All short and permed. I call it the "Poodle-Do"

This next one is by far the biggest "What was I thinking?" 1964-65. I was a ninth grader at Wahlquist Jr. High.

I call it the "Birds nest". .. Wiglets were popular at the time [little extra hair pieces you could curl and then stick in your hair to make it look thicker] , but no, I had to have a "switch" [a long pony tail that you could attach to your hair to make it look longer] but no, I had to braid it, form it like a "nest", stick it on top of of my head and pin it with bobby pins. This photo has not been photo shopped, it is original. I was very particular about my hair and I know you won't believe this, but a trend setter. However, I don't remember anyone else with this particular hairdo...........hmmm.................

And at last, this one is from 1966 when I was sixteen and a sophomore at Weber High School.

I call this one the "Perfect Aqua net flip". This was accomplished by a lot of "teasing" the hair, spraying aqua net hair spray on it and carefully combing each strand of hair into a perfect poof head of perfection. Then carefully flipping the bottom with rollers and then "back combing" the flip into symmetrical curls all the way around. Note the thick bangs that you could drive a lawnmower through. Oh and the thick "Ferrin" eyebrows.

Now, if only I had that "side pony tail" picture, it would be a nice finish to my "Monday Memory" post.

My favorite is the high school one. I wish I had that volume! I'll help you search for the pony picture.

The hairdo's seemed like a lot of work. You looked great though and still do. I like the high school picture best. Your blog is so fun to look at.

Love the post - and the hairdo's !!! I myself am a fan of poofy hair - Me and my girls all use what we call a "poofing" comb. I think the stlye you have in the picture is close to some of the styles today - although they may be a bit messier. Love it. Its a great idea for a post - maybe I will have to use it on my blog - if I ever get back to it. :)

What fun hair do's and what fun memories. I wonder who came up with all of those do's? You look beautiful in all of them.

Your hairdos were a trip down memory lane. I think I beat you in the "big hair" department. When I moved to Utah from the more "worldly" Ft. Lauderdale--I had a huge bouffant style with the black eye makeup and "painted on" looking tight jeans to go with it. I would lose the "hard and fast" look of the big city but I would like a few of those strands now--as I am going to be one of those bluehaired ladies with scalp shining through in no time at all. As you mentioned--you trendsetter you--I had the long switch hairpiece like yours. It saved my life during Prom time since instead of luxuriating in scented bathwater and getting my hair done, etc. I was decorating until the last minute, took the "french bath" (a few squirts of perfume) and plopped that crazy hairpiece on the top of my head and called it good. Also do you remember someone in Warriorettes that wore a hairpiece and sent it flying during a parade? with the flip of their head during the routine? Your pictures are fun--thanks for sharing.

Colleen, I love the do's. They bring back a lot of memories for me, since we're both "of a certain age" and went through the same horrific styles at the same time. Hilarious to look at now, but we thought we were SO stylin' back then, right?? You look beautiful in all of your pictures and it's fun to see them. Now if only you could retrieve that yearbook photo.....
